Heatwave In Punjab: Summer Vacations In School Will Start From May 14

Since the beginning of the summer season in March this year, several parts of the country have been reporting severe hot weather. Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi are witnessing extreme heatwave conditions. The Indian Meteorological Department on Thursday has even issued an alert, asking people to avoid exposure and stay hydrated.

Amidst the prevailing heat wave conditions, the Punjab Government on Friday ordered closure of schools from May 14. CM Bhagwant Mann has said said that considering the sudden intense heatwave and suggestions of thousands of parents and teachers, it has been decided to declare summer vacation in all schools of Punjab from May 14.

Meanwhile, the schedule of schools from May 2, 2022 to May 14, 2022 has also been changed. As per the orders issued by the Punjab School Education Department, the primary schools will now be open from 7 am to 11 am. Middle/high/senior secondary schools will be open from 7 am to 12.30 pm.

Though the summer vacations will begin from May 15 and continue till June 30, the Department of Education has made it mandatory for all schools to conduct online classes from May 16 to May 31.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday issued an alert, asking people to avoid exposure and stay hydrated.

On Friday, Bhatinda recorded a maximum temperature of 44 degrees Celsius and Patiala a high of 43.4 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature in Amritsar was 42.3 degrees Celsius, Ludhiana 43.2 degrees Celsius and Jalandhar 42.7 degrees Celsius.

As per the report of Times of India, the maximum and minimum temperatures have been hovering appreciably above normal in most parts of Punjab and Haryana, and any respite is unlikely in the coming days. The prevailing maximum temperature is 7-9 degrees Celsius above normal in Haryana and 8-9 degrees in Punjab.
