A Runaway couple filed a petition for protection and the Punjab and Haryana High Court rejected the plea saying live-in relationships are morally and socially unacceptable.

Gulza Kumari (19) and Gurwinder Singh (22) in the petition said that they were living together and were planning to get married shortly. They also claimed that they were in danger for their lives because of Ms Kumari‘s parents.

Justice HS Madaan in his order said “ as a matter of fact, the petitioners in the garb of filing the present petition are seeking seal of approval on their live-in relationship, which is morally and socially not acceptable and no protection order in the petition can be passed. The petition stands dismissed accordingly”.

The couple was living together in Tarn Taran district, and the boy said that Ms Kumari’s parents, who live in Ludhiana, do not approve of the relationship and the couple cannot marry because Gulza Kumari’s birth documents, required to get married are in the possession of her family.
