Himachal: Teachers From Punjab Protests Against Bhagwant Mann Government

Ahead of the polling in Himachal Pradesh on November 12, the troubles for the Aam Aadmi Party seems to increase. Though the AAP brought in a lot of guarantees for the education sector, now the teachers from Punjab, protesting in the state capital Shimla, have troubled the party.

Reportedly, in Shimla, 350 teachers from Punjab who are members of various teachers’ organisations, held a dharna under the slogan “Poll khol, halla bol.” Moreover, the agitators, who carried signs reading “Punjab Aam Aadmi Party ke vaada khilafi,” claimed that the AAP had used false promises to get votes in Punjab and is now doing the same in Himachal.

Notably, the teachers initially gathered on The Ridge, but due to the imposition of Section 144 of the CrPC, they went to the Sadar police station, and agitated in front of it. Moreover, this is a matter of concern for the Aam Aadmi Party in Himachal Pradesh, as it’s the first time that the party has been campaigning so actively in the state. Additionally, these protests would lay a negative impact for the AAP on the teachers in Himachal.

“In Punjab, the Aam Aadmi Party had stated that both teacher welfare and education were its top priorities. The same promises are now being made in Himachal to get votes,” according to a union leader. “They had promised to regularise teachers and raise the pay scale, but nothing has been done even after seven months. We’ve come here to warn people about AAP’s failure to keep its commitments and will go to Gujarat also if needed,” he further stated.

The Aam Aadmi Party, in Himachal, gave a guarantee to regularise all the temporary teachers and to fill all the vacant posts after coming to power. However, as claimed by the teachers from Punjab, the same promise was made to them which still remains unfulfilled after 7 months of formation of the AAP government in Punjab.

Moreover, this may affect the Aam Aadmi Party’s performance in Himachal Pradesh. Also, if these teachers go to Gujarat as well, it would increase the troubles for the AAP in that crucial state where the polling is to be announced anytime soon.
