Indian Men’s Hockey Team has ended India’s medal-drought in Hockey. The drought took 41 years to end but History has finally been made! Indian Men’s Hockey team beat Germany with a score of 5-4 to bag the Bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. This is India’s first ever medal in Hockey at the Olympics in 41 years.
Indian Men’s Hockey Team now has a total tally of 3 Bronze, 1 Silver and 8 Gold Medals in the history of Olympics. With this Bronze medal, India now has won four medals so far at the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
It was in 1980 when Indian Men’s Hockey Team last won a medal at the Olympics, which was India’s 8th gold medal, and now, after 41 years, History’s been made.
Simranjeet Singh scored two goals, followed by Hardik Singh, Harmanpreet Singh and Rupinder Pal Singh, who scored 1 goal each to beat Germany with a conclusive score of 5-4.
The situation before half-time was stuck at a score of 3-3, but India is known for its comeback and the Men’s Hockey Team once again showed their ability to comeback and hit 2 more goals to book their spot on the Olympic podium.
The whole team was in tears of joy when the referee blew the last match-ending whistle. Not able to control their emotions, the players started celebrating on the field, hugging each other, with tears in their eyes, pride on their faces and ‘India’ in their heart.
The win is described as historical not only because it is India’s first ever Olympic Hockey medal in 41 years, but also this will instill a love for Hockey in the hearts of India youth. The crown of the game worn by Indians had long lost and youth had forgotten the sport of Hockey but this win has not only returned the crown on India’s head but has embarked an important event for the future of Hockey in India.
