Richa Chadha, who recently celebrated her daughter Zuneyra’s first birthday, opened up about the fears and anxieties she faced during pregnancy and early motherhood. In a candid chat with YouTuber Lily Singh, the actress shared how the thought of bringing a baby into today’s world filled her with doubt and concern.
“I was a little bit afraid. There’s climate change, there’s a genocide, there’s so much rubbish going on in the world. Is having a child a good idea?” Richa questioned. She admitted her first reaction was fear, unsure how motherhood would impact her life. “My initial response was fear. I was like, oh my god, is my life over?”
What really stood out in the conversation was her raw honesty about the safety of raising a girl in India. “I was like, ‘We live in India, I have to buy a gun’,” she said, reflecting the deep concern many parents feel.
She also spoke about the importance of raising boys with the right values instead of only focusing on protecting daughters. “Just focus on the sons. That’s it… The son needs to understand consent from the mother,” she said, stressing the need to build a safer and more equal society.
