The ULLU ALTT Desiflix ban has come into force as the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting ordered the blocking of 25 OTT platforms on July 25, 2025, for violating Indian IT and media laws.
The government directed Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to disable access to platforms such as ULLU, ALTT (formerly ALTBalaji), Big Shots App, Desiflix, Boomex and others due to allegations of hosting obscene, vulgar or pornographic content. Platforms reportedly lacked age‑verification filters, used misleading thumbnails, and often misrepresented women in objectionable scenes.

Authorities cited violations including Section 67 and 67A of the Information Technology Act, Section 294 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and Section 4 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986. MIB also highlighted intermediary liability under Section 79(3)(b) of the IT Act and Digital Media Ethics Code Rules 2021, making ISPs responsible once violations are notified.
This crackdown aims to strengthen digital safety, curb unregulated adult content, and protect viewers—especially minors—from wrongful exposure. It follows a similar ban from March 2024 when 18 OTT platforms and related sites were blocked for the same reasons.
