In the wake of the horrific terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, that claimed the lives of 26 people—mostly tourists—the Indian government has blocked the X (formerly Twitter) account of Pakistan’s Defence Minister, Khawaja Asif.
The decision comes after Asif’s explosive admission during a Sky News interview, where he acknowledged Pakistan’s involvement in supporting terrorism. Responding to a question about Pakistan’s history of aiding terror outfits, Asif said, “We have been doing this dirty work for the United States (US) for about three decades… and West, including Britain.”
India reacted strongly, highlighting the comment at an international platform. Yojna Patel, India’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, addressed the issue at a UN event commemorating victims of terrorism. She stated, “This open confession surprises no one and exposes Pakistan as a rogue state fueling global terrorism and destabilising the region.”
Patel further pointed out that Pakistan had once again used a global forum to propagate falsehoods about India, but Asif’s candid remarks had revealed the truth.
The action against Asif’s social media account came just a day after India blocked 16 Pakistani YouTube channels accused of spreading incendiary, anti-India content. These channels, which together had over 63 million subscribers, included prominent names such as Dawn News, ARY News, BOL News, Geo News, SAMAA TV, and GNN.
This series of measures follows the devastating attack in Pahalgam’s Baisaran Valley, where terrorists opened fire on a group of tourists. The ambush left 26 dead and many others injured, including a Nepali national. Disturbing videos of the attack have surfaced online, showing terrified tourists and indiscriminate shooting by the assailants.
