India Extends Closure of 24 Airports Till 15 May Amid Drone Threats

Following Pakistan’s attempted drone attacks on several northern Indian cities, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has extended the temporary shutdown of 24 airports across the country. Initially set to last until May 10, the closure will now remain in effect until the morning of May 15.

A senior government official confirmed that the decision was reached after a meeting with various stakeholders, and both airlines and airport authorities have been formally informed.

In their statement, Indigo Airlines mentioned that “in accordance with the latest directives from the relevant authorities, all flights to and from the following destinations will remain cancelled until 5.29 am on May 15 due to temporary airport closures.”

The affected airports include Srinagar, Jammu, Amritsar, Leh, Chandigarh, Dharamshala, Bikaner, Rajkot, Jodhpur, and Kishangarh.

The airline further added, “These precautionary measures have been instituted with your safety and security as our highest priority. We remain fully committed to providing unwavering support while navigating this situation together.”

This move comes amid escalating tensions along India’s western front, as the Pakistani army reportedly breached Indian airspace and carried out multiple drone intrusions on the night of May 7 and 8, aiming at Indian military infrastructure.
