India Launches NALSA Scheme, First Time in History Offering Legal Aid to Soldiers’ Families

For the first time in Indian history, the families of soldiers will receive proactive legal support through the newly launched NALSA Veer Parivar Sahayata Yojana 2025. This landmark initiative aims to reduce the legal burdens faced by soldiers while they serve in remote and challenging terrains across the country.

The scheme is being officially launched today at a special conference in Srinagar by Justice Surya Kant, Executive Chairman of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and the next Chief Justice of India. The event will also be attended by Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

The inspiration behind the scheme came in the aftermath of Operation Sindoor. According to sources, Justice Surya Kant was deeply moved by the sacrifices of the armed forces during the operation and began exploring how the judiciary could directly support their well-being.

The NALSA Veer Parivar Sahayata Yojana 2025 is a landmark legal initiative focused on easing personal legal struggles for defence families.

Justice Kant strongly believes that the legal community must step up to ensure soldiers are not left alone in times of personal legal crisis. His vision has now materialized into the NALSA Veer Parivar Sahayata Yojana, which he will inaugurate before assuming the role of Chief Justice of India on November 24.

The scheme promises to provide free legal aid and assistance to the families of military personnel, helping them resolve civil, criminal, and domestic legal issues with ease. It marks a transformative step in India’s justice delivery system, extending judicial care and compassion to the guardians of the nation.

With this initiative, the message is clear: while soldiers protect the country’s borders, the legal system will protect their families at home.

As we remember the unsung heroes of the Kargil War, this legal support scheme is another step toward truly standing by our soldiers and their families.
