The Indian Coast Guard Ship Sachet set sail for Sudan on Friday, carrying over two tons of essential medicines, including anti-cancer drugs, as part of India’s ongoing humanitarian efforts. The Ministry of External Affairs stated, “Extending Humanitarian Assistance to the People of Sudan. An Indian Coast Guard Ship Sachet departed today for Sudan, carrying a consignment of more than 2 tons of lifesaving medicines, including anti-cancer drugs.”
In addition to its mission to Sudan, the Sachet earlier embarked on a journey to Djibouti, delivering medical aid that included 20 haemodialysis machines and a reverse osmosis (RO) plant.
Sudan has been grappling with a devastating conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) for nearly two years. This ongoing crisis has severely impacted food security, leaving over 25 million people in Sudan, South Sudan, and Chad in dire need of assistance, with 17 million affected in Sudan alone. The World Food Programme warns that this could lead to the world’s most severe hunger crisis.
India has been actively extending humanitarian aid worldwide. In February, it dispatched 26 tons of relief materials to Honduras following Tropical Storm SARA. In January, it also sent medical supplies, including bronchodilators and ventilators, to the Kurdistan region of Iraq to support those in need.
