PM Modi Reaffirms Strength Of India US Ties
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stressed the positivity of India US ties, responding to US President Donald Trump’s recent remarks. Trump said he would “always be friends” with Modi, despite disagreements over India’s Russian oil imports.
Modi wrote on X: “Deeply appreciate and fully reciprocate President Trump’s sentiments and positive assessment of our ties. India and the US have a very positive and forward-looking Comprehensive and Global Strategic Partnership.” His statement came as tensions rise due to high US tariffs, but Modi ended his note by highlighting India US ties.

Why Tensions Are Rising In India US Ties
Recently, Trump imposed secondary tariffs above 50 per cent on Indian exports, criticizing India’s continued oil imports from Russia. India responded by calling the move “unfair, unjustified, and unreasonable.”
Adding to this, Modi was seen sharing warm moments with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin. Videos of them shaking hands and smiling prompted Trump to suggest that the US might have “lost India to China,”.
Trump Clarifies His Position
Trump later softened his words, clarifying he does not believe the US has truly lost India. He said, “I’ll always be friends with PM Modi. He’s a great Prime Minister. But I just don’t like what he is doing at this particular moment. India and the United States have a very special relationship.”
The US President also emphasized that trade talks with India are “going well.” His reassurance signals that despite tensions, India US ties remain crucial for both nations.
