India Won’t Play Bilateral Cricket With Pakistan, BCCI Pays Tribute to Victims

In the wake of the tragic terrorist attack in Pahalgam that claimed several innocent lives, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reaffirmed its decision to not engage in any bilateral cricketing ties with Pakistan. BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla stated that this stance aligns with the Indian government’s position and will remain unchanged.

“We are with the victims and we condemn it. Whatever our government will say, we will do. We don’t play with Pakistan in bilateral series because of the government stand. And we will not play with Pakistan in bilaterals going forward. But when it comes to ICC event we play due to ICC engagement. ICC is also aware whatever is happening they will to it (sic),” he told Sports Tak.

India and Pakistan haven’t played a bilateral series since 2012-13, and India last visited Pakistan in 2008. Their contests are now limited to international ICC tournaments, with India declining to play in Pakistan for the upcoming 2025 Champions Trophy.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia also condemned the Pahalgam attack, offering his condolences.

“The cricketing community is deeply shocked and anguished by the tragic loss of innocent lives… we stand hand in hand at this hour of tragedy,” Saikia said.

In a show of solidarity, IPL match 41 between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians began with a one-minute silence. Players and staff wore black armbands, while all usual fanfare was suspended, creating a somber atmosphere of respect and remembrance.
