7 International Cricketers Having an Indian Origin That Play For Another Country

The World cup had an emotional ending for all the Indians especially our hardworking cricket team. The Indian cricket team is said to be one of the best teams at the international level. Indians constitute 17.5% of the world’s population, whether in India or any other country. 

It is no surprise that many Indian players have played for other countries and are earning respect in their respective teams. The magic of some of these was also seen in the World Cup 2023. Below we have compiled a list of 7 cricketers who have an Indian origin but they play for a different country.

Ajaz Patel

Ajaz Younis Patel created history in the Test match against India in 2021. In the second innings against India, New Zealand’s Ajaz Patel became the third bowler to take 10 wickets in an innings. He was born in Mumbai. His family is from Tankaria village of Gujarat. He left India when he was 8 years old and was brought up in New Zealand.

Rachin Ravindra

New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra recently created history by scoring a century in the first match of the World Cup. He played an unbeaten inning of 123 runs against England, due to which the team won by 9 wickets. Both of Rachin Ravindra’s parents are from India. The interesting thing is that his name is also a combination of Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid. His father Ravi Krishnamurthy moved to New Zealand from Bengaluru in 1990.

Ish Sodhi

Inderbir Singh Sodhi is a leg spinner who plays for the New Zealand team. He was born in 1992 in Ludhiana, Punjab and was 4 years old when his family moved to Auckland. He is the second highest wicket taker for the Kiwi team in T20.

Keshav Maharaj

Although the Maharaj family has been living in South Africa for almost one and a half centuries, his ancestors were from Sultanpur in Uttar Pradesh. Keshav Maharaj of Indian origin plays for South Africa. His father Athamanad Maharaj was a former Ranji player. Keshav bowls slow spin with his left arm and is also a batsman. 

Jaskaran Malhotra 

India-born Jaskaran Malhotra was among the three American cricketers nominated for the ICC Best Men’s Player. He became the fourth player to hit six sixes in a single over.

Haseeb Hameed

Haseeb Hameed is a young top order batsman, who plays for England. Hameed’s parents are from Bharuch village in Gujarat and later shifted to England. After earning a name in Lancashire County Cricket Team, he was made a part of the England team.

Jatinder Singh

Jatinder Singh was born in Ludhiana, Punjab. He is one of the players who has performed brilliantly for Oman in T-20. Jatinder has scored runs at an average of more than 30 in International T-20.
