The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 has been suspended indefinitely due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. With the situation on the brink of war, the BCCI has decided to prioritize the safety of players, staff, and spectators.
The decision comes as political unrest grows between the two nations, leading to major security concerns. “It does not look nice that cricket goes on while the country is at war,” a BCCI official told PTI, reflecting the gravity of the ongoing crisis.
The tournament was nearing the end of its league phase, with just a few games left before the playoffs and final. However, recent developments forced the board to take swift action. On Thursday, May 8, the match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala was halted mid-game, in the 11th over of the first innings, due to air raid alerts in Jammu and Pathankot. Given the stadium’s proximity—just 200 km from the border—the BCCI chose to abandon the match for safety reasons.
Today’s fixture between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) was also cancelled following the announcement.
