JioTele OS, a new operating system for smart TVs, was unveiled on Tuesday, positioning itself as a potential alternative platform for connected TV users in India. The system is designed to offer AI-powered content recommendations, along with support for popular OTT apps. Jio promises global and regional content integration on the platform, along with regular software updates. However, it has not yet clarified whether JioTele OS is built on Google’s Android TV system.
JioTele OS aims to enhance the viewing experience by supporting both TV channels and widely used OTT apps. It also boasts support for cloud-based gaming on smart TVs running the new OS. All these features can be controlled through a single remote.
One of the key features of JioTele OS is its AI-driven content recommendations, though Jio has not disclosed the specific criteria for these suggestions—whether based on a user’s viewing history or the latest trending movies and shows.
The platform promises seamless integration of regional and global content, further highlighting its capability to deliver “lag-free 4K performance” on compatible smart TVs. The actual performance will likely depend on the TV’s hardware.
Jio also plans to provide ongoing software updates for the OS, introducing new app support, content formats, and security enhancements.
Smart TVs featuring JioTele OS will be available for purchase from February 21. Customers can choose from select models by brands such as BPL, JVC, Kodak, and Thompson. Jio is also working with additional OEMs to expand the availability of JioTele OS-powered smart TVs in the future.
