Ek Tha Tiger director Kabir Khan has spoken in support of Diljit Dosanjh amid backlash over Sardaar Ji 3. The controversy centers around the casting of Pakistani actress Hania Aamir, which led to protests and the film skipping its India release. Kabir Khan clarified that the decision was made “ages ago” and defended Diljit, saying it’s “probably unfair to target him.”
In an interview with NDTV, Kabir explained the casting was finalized well before recent political tensions, including the Pahalgam terror attack. He stressed that film decisions are team efforts, not individual choices. While he did not directly comment on the casting itself, he firmly backed Diljit’s position, calling him an “international icon.” Online reactions remain split, with some accusing the film of insensitivity and others calling for art to remain above politics.
Sardaar Ji 3 released internationally on June 27 and performed strongly at the overseas box office. Kabir’s remarks have added nuance to a heated debate about cross-border casting and national sentiment. Should actors be held accountable for entire productions?
