The storm that began during the farmers’ protest has once again caught up with actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut, as an Agra court has revived the Kangana Ranaut sedition case over her controversial comments made during the 2020–21 agitation.
On Wednesday, Special MP-MLA Court Judge Lokesh Kumar accepted a revision petition against an earlier dismissal and ordered a fresh trial in the same lower court. This move effectively restores charges under Sections 356 and 152 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) — provisions dealing with sedition and promoting enmity. The decision marks another major turn in the ongoing Kangana Ranaut sedition case.
Background Of The Kangana Ranaut Sedition Case
The case began after advocate Ramashankar Sharma filed a complaint in September 2024, accusing Kangana of making derogatory remarks against farmers in a TV interview on August 26, 2024. In the interview, she allegedly claimed that during the Delhi border protests, “rapes and murders took place,” and that without strong leadership, “India could have turned into another Bangladesh.”
Sharma, belonging to a farming background, said the statements were deeply offensive. “She called farmers rapists and extremists,” he told reporters, adding that he had also approached local authorities for action. The Kangana Ranaut sedition case was initially dismissed by a local court but has now been revived after six summonses went unanswered.
From Apology To Revival
This comes just days after Kangana tendered an apology in a Punjab court for her remarks about farmers, claiming her comments were not intended to hurt sentiments. However, with the Kangana Ranaut sedition case now revived in Agra, her political and legal troubles seem far from over.
Earlier this year, the “Queen” actor had also faced a major controversy when a CISF constable slapped her at Chandigarh airport, allegedly over her comments on women farmers.
The revived proceedings mark a new chapter for the first-time MP from Mandi, who continues to face public and legal scrutiny for her outspoken nature.
