Kangana Ranaut’s “Emergency” Set for OTT Release on Netflix, March 17

Kangana Ranaut has announced the OTT release of her film “Emergency” on Netflix, which will be available from March 17. The actress shared the news on her Instagram Stories, reposting a fan’s collage of her alongside former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, with the simple caption, “17th March releasing on netflix.” The film, which had a theatrical release on January 17, grossed ₹21.65 crore in India, as reported by Sacnilk.com.

In “Emergency”, Kangana portrays Indira Gandhi during the politically turbulent period of the 1975-77 Emergency, a crucial chapter in Indian history. The film delves into the events surrounding the declaration of the Emergency and its aftermath. In addition to playing the lead role, Kangana also directed the film. The cast includes Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, Milind Soman, and the late Satish Kaushik.

However, “Emergency” faced multiple hurdles before its release. It encountered delays, censor issues, and protests from Sikh organizations over concerns about its portrayal of history. In August last year, the SGPC (Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee) sent a legal notice to the producers, alleging that the film misrepresented Sikh history and contained objectionable content that could be seen as “anti-Sikh.” Despite these challenges, the film is set to make its digital debut on Netflix.
