Karan Johar To Soon Come Up With Another Bollywood Biopic On Freedom Fighter Usha Mehta

Karan Johar is one of the biggest names when it comes to Bollywood. He is known for producing various Bollywood Biopics like Kesari, Raazi, Gunjan Saxena and the most recent Shershaah. Now, rumours are that he is all set to produce another biopic, based on the life of Usha Mehta, under the banner of Dharma Productions. It will be directed by Kannan Iyer.

Usha Mehta was one of the most prominent freedom fighters of the country that helped India gain its independence from British rule. She was deeply inspired by the ideology and vision of Mahatma Gandhi and called herself a Gandhian.

She is known for organising the ‘Congress Radio’, sometimes also referred to as the ‘Secret Congress Radio’, which was an underground radio station that functioned during the Quit India Movement in 1942. She is also a recipient of the second highest civilian award of the Republic of India, Padma Vibhushan. She earned it in 1998.

From 1942 to 1946, she was also imprisoned for organizing the Congress Radio Station. The radio was of utmost importance for the freedom struggle of India because when, on 9 August 1942, the Quit India Movement was declared by Mahatma Gandhi, all the major leaders of the movement were under arrest and it was in the hands of junior leaders to lead the freedom fight from here on. The Congress Radio by Usha Mehta helped in instilling trust in the common man of India.

The cast of the film based on Usha Mehta’s life has not yet been announced. It is expected that the announcement regarding the lead actress will be made soon. As of now, not much of the movie is known and we hope the audience is updated as soon as possible.
