The Maldives has just announced Bollywood star Katrina Kaif as the new global face of its tourism campaign. The country’s tourism board shared the news, calling her a “globally recognised icon” with a strong presence not only in films but also as an entrepreneur.
“Katrina Kaif is a globally recognised icon, a distinguished performer, and an award-winning entrepreneur whose influence spans industries and continents. With an acclaimed portfolio of blockbuster films and many prestigious awards, her contributions to Indian cinema are prolific,” read the official statement.
Clearly excited about her new role, Katrina said she was “honoured” to represent the Maldives, often known as the “Sunny Side of Life.” In her words, “The Maldives represents the pinnacle of luxury and natural beauty – a place where elegance meets tranquillity.” She also said this collaboration would focus on sharing the “finest travel experiences” with people around the world.
Katrina added that she hopes this campaign will inspire global travellers to “discover the unique charm and world-class offerings” the Maldives has to offer.
The announcement comes just weeks before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to the Maldives, a sign of improving ties between the two countries after some diplomatic tensions earlier last year. Visit Maldives CEO and Managing Director Ibrahim Shiuree also expressed his excitement, saying, “Her vibrant personality and strong connection with audiences worldwide make her a perfect representative for the Sunny Side of Life.”
