Kaushambi LPG Tanker Explosion Kills Five; CCTV Captures Horrific Toll Plaza Crash

A CCTV video has revealed the horrifying moments when an LPG tanker crashed into a toll plaza in Uttar Pradesh’s Kaushambi district, triggering a massive explosion that ultimately claimed five lives. The accident, which occurred on June 26, has resurfaced in public attention after the footage emerged online. Authorities have launched an investigation into the Kaushambi LPG tanker explosion.

CCTV Shows Tanker Losing Control

The 24-second CCTV footage shows two LPG tankers approaching the toll plaza at around 6:40 am. Seconds later, one tanker suddenly veers off course, strikes a divider and crashes into the toll booth.

Officials said the tanker was travelling from Kanpur to Pratapgarh when the impact caused a gas leak. The leaked liquefied petroleum gas ignited shortly afterwards, resulting in a powerful explosion. According to reports, flames from the blast were visible from nearly two kilometres away.

Death Toll Rises to Five

The Kaushambi LPG tanker explosion claimed the lives of tanker driver Dharmendra Dubey and toll plaza employee Alok Singh at the scene.

Several injured workers were shifted to hospitals for treatment. Anil Kumar, a toll employee from Prayagraj, died on July 1 due to his injuries. Hiramani Singh from Raebareli and Krishna Pal Maurya from Madhya Pradesh succumbed a day later, taking the death toll to five.

Police and fire brigade personnel from across the district rushed to the scene and worked for hours to bring the fire under control.

Vehicles Destroyed, Probe Underway

The intense blaze completely destroyed 16 motorcycles and two cars parked near the toll plaza. To prevent long traffic jams, authorities temporarily allowed vehicles to cross the toll plaza without paying toll charges.

Officials have constituted a technical investigation team to determine the exact cause of the accident and examine whether any mechanical fault or negligence contributed to the Kaushambi LPG tanker explosion. The CCTV footage is expected to play a key role in the investigation.
