In a heartbreaking incident, Liverpool footballer Diogo Jota has died at the age of 28 in a car accident in northern Spain. The tragedy occurred just two weeks after he married his childhood sweetheart, Rute Cardoso, who is also the mother of their three children.
Jota was travelling with his younger brother, Andre, 26, who was also a footballer. Sadly, both brothers lost their lives when their Lamborghini reportedly suffered a tyre burst while overtaking on the A-52 highway near Zamora, around 70 miles from the city of Valladolid. The car veered off the road, crashed, and caught fire in the early hours of the morning.
Emergency services in the Castilla and Leon region responded quickly after receiving several calls. The 1-1-2 Castilla y León operations room confirmed the vehicle was found on fire and both passengers were declared dead at the scene.
Jota had recently called himself “the luckiest man in the world” after marrying Rute. The news has left football fans and the sports world in deep shock and mourning.
He was known not only for his talent on the field but also for being a loving family man. His sudden loss is truly devastating.
