The land between Chenab & Beas river is called Majha and the land between Beas & Satluj is known by the name Doaba . Majha region of Punjab consists of districts – Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Gurdaspur and Pathankot; while districts in Doaba region are HoshiarpuR, Kapurthala, Jalandhar and Nawanshahr.
It can be seen that over the years Majha has seen a major growth in Punjbai Music & Film Industry and it can be said that Majha currently is ruling the both, with celebrities including Amrinder Gill, Ranjit Bawa, Guru Randhawa, Nimrat Khaira, Jordan Sandhu and many more. While earlier, about 5-6 years back major hit singers like Preet Harpal and Roshan Prince belonged to Doaba.
Also, the main reason why this thing is coming in highlights is because of singers like Prem Dhillon and Jordan Sandhu, who are specifying their region in every song of theirs. There has always been a tough competition among artists from both the regions and it’s a treat to watch for the audience.
One more reason which makes Majha special is that it has given us a lot of artists that have represented Punjab in Bollywood like Kapil Sharma, Bharti Singh, Chandan Prabhakar and Sudesh Lehri. Also there is no doubt that currently there are many artists in the industry from Doaba region like Satinder Sartaj and Nooran Sisters who have been consistent with their performances over the years and have kept the classical and sufi feel alive among the audience.
But if we have to evaluate according to the current scenario, there is no doubt in accepting that Majha region is ruling the Punjabi music industry and in cinema as well.
