Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was the target of a vicious political attack by Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his two-day visit to West Bengal. Shah boldly stated that Mamata Banerjee’s reign in West Bengal was coming to an end while speaking at a rally in the state.
Shah charged that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government was disregarding the interests of the majority and engaging in “appeasement politics.” “The Bengali people are seeing through Mamata Banerjee’s appeasement-based politics,” he said. He went on to say that the BJP is gaining support throughout the state and that the 2026 Assembly elections will bring about change.
Amit Shah also criticized the state’s law and order situation, saying that it was “deteriorating under Mamata’s leadership.” He pledged that Bengal would experience peace and progress once again under a BJP-led administration.
In order to inspire party members ahead of the 2026 elections, he visited temples, met with state BJP leaders, and attended public rallies. The Home Minister’s remarks signal a fresh attempt by the BJP to increase its power in the eastern state, where it has had erratic electoral results recently.
Shah’s comments were rejected by the TMC, which claimed they were politically motivated and unrelated to the situation on the ground. West Bengal’s political struggle appears set to get even more intense as tensions rise and the 2026 elections draw near.
