Man Freezes Legs in Dry Ice for ₹12 Crore Insurance Scam, Arrested

In a bizarre and shocking case of insurance fraud, a South Korean man went to extreme lengths, literally freezing his legs in dry ice to illegally claim ₹12 crore in insurance money. The elaborate scam has now left him permanently disabled and facing serious prison time.

The 50-year-old man, identified only by his surname Chung, is accused of deliberately injuring himself to claim compensation from eight different insurance policies he had purchased shortly before the incident in January 2020. According to the prosecution, he submerged his feet in dry ice for an extended period, causing severe frostbite and irreversible tissue damage.

After the self-inflicted injuries, Chung was hospitalized, and both of his lower limbs had to be amputated. He then submitted insurance claims stating the injuries were accidental and received a substantial amount of compensation. However, authorities began investigating after discovering inconsistencies in his statements and medical reports.

What added to the suspicion was that Chung’s injuries were too symmetrical and clean to be accidental. Surveillance footage and testimonies from acquaintances further revealed that the act was premeditated.

Now, three years later, he is facing criminal charges for fraud and deception. Prosecutors highlighted how Chung had plotted the scam meticulously, but in doing so, sacrificed his own body.

The case has triggered a wave of public reaction online, with many stunned by the extreme lengths he took. As the trial continues, legal experts suggest a harsh sentence could follow.
