A man accused of r*pe was reportedly tied to a bullock cart, assaulted, and paraded n*ked by locals in Bahraich district, Uttar Pradesh. The incident occurred in the Visheshwarganj area, and a video of the attack soon went viral on social media. The video allegedly shows the 22-year-old man with his lower body exposed, tied to a cart, as onlookers encouraged the assault and incited a dog to attack him. One voice in the video says, “Let it go, what if he dies?”
Following the video’s circulation, the victim’s family filed a formal complaint with the local police. Deputy Superintendent of Police Ramesh Pandey confirmed that an FIR was registered based on the complaint under sections of the Indian Penal Code concerning assault and harm.
According to the complainant, the man was beaten and tied up near a village on April 3, and his family provided medical care afterward. The family only discovered the video on April 17. SHO Gyan Singh stated that despite individuals from two different communities being involved, there was no evidence of communal tension. To ensure peace, extra police forces were deployed. The accused had been on the run since a rape case was filed against him earlier in April.
A separate investigation into the mob violence and the rape case is currently underway.
