Mohali: With The Collapse Of A Portion Of An Under-Construction Building, 1 Dead & 5 Injured

With the crashing down of a portion of an under-construction building of a private university in Mohali at sec-101, IT City on Sunday night, one person lost his life while five others got injured. 

Honey Kumar, 27 (a resident of Jhanjheri village), got trapped under the debris, and it took one hour to pull him out. Unfortunately, he was declared dead when taken to the Government Medical College & Hospital in Sector 32, Chandigarh.

“The investigation has been started and samples of building material have been taken for testing. We have already directed to probe the incident and take legal action against the responsible negligent persons”, said Mr. Amit Talwar, Deputy Commissioner.

As the local police said, the incident took place around 11.30 PM. Some of the workers were sleeping under the roof of the portion that collapsed while the work was in progress on the other side of the site. The workers were taken to GMCH and discharged after treatment. “We have initiated inquest proceedings under section 174 of the CrPC”, said the police officer.

“The construction of a bridge connecting the two towers was in progress, and the scaffolding collapsed as workers laid the concrete mixture on it. The victim was operating the machine to lay the concrete mixture, while two workers were asleep under the bridge” – Sub-inspector Kewal Singh, investigating officer.
