Nawaz Sharif Advises Pak PM to Avoid Aggression, Amid India-Pakistan Tensions

Three-time Pakistan Prime Minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) founder, Nawaz Sharif, has urged his younger brother and current Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to prioritize diplomacy in efforts to restore peace with India, emphasizing his opposition to adopting an aggressive stance.

The two leaders met in Lahore on Sunday evening, where Shehbaz Sharif briefed Nawaz on the steps his government had taken against India after the National Security Committee (NSC) meeting, particularly following India’s move to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) in response to the Pahalgam terror attack.

Sources cited by IANS said Shehbaz Sharif explained the retaliatory actions, including the closure of Pakistan’s airspace for India, and assured his brother about Pakistan’s readiness to deliver “greater response” to any form of aggression.

“PM Shehbaz told his elder brother and party founder that India’s unilateral decision to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty had heightened the risk of a war in the region,” the source stated.

Nawaz Sharif, however, advised the Prime Minister to avoid any aggressive escalation and instead seek to defuse tensions through diplomatic efforts. Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif called upon India to establish an international commission comprising representatives from the United States, Russia, China, and Britain to investigate the Pahalgam attack.
