Recently, British Columbia- Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says his “heart breaks” after the spotting of more unmarked graves on the grounds of an Indigenous residential school in the southern Gulf Islands off the British Columbia coast.
Following the discovery of unmarked graves, leader of New Democratic Party Jagmeet Singh has spoken out, criticizing the response from Trudeau’s government. He says, “This morning, we’ve learned of another unmarked grave site,160 undocumented graves have been confirmed. We can never allow this to be normal – It is not normal

Not only this, but a month ago the same case happened where the unmarked graves of children were found. Singh has raised his voice and shared his concern for the family. Still, nothing has changed.
According to newswires, Trudeau said the federal government will work with Indigenous people to fight discrimination and systemic racism.
Further, Trudeau’s statement surmised with a pledge to “acknowledge this truth, learn from our past, and walk the shared path of reconciliation, so we can build a better future.”
Meanwhile, Approximately 1,000 unmarked graves have been discovered at former residential school sites in British Columbia and Saskatchewan over the last several months.
