Neeraj Chopra Triumphs in Paris Diamond League with Stellar 88.16m Opening Throw

Indian javelin superstar Neeraj Chopra claimed victory at the 2025 Paris Diamond League on Friday, June 20, thanks to an outstanding opener of 88.16 m, which proved unbeatable through the night.

Aboard a competitive roster featuring five athletes in the 90 m club, the 27‑year‑old quickly established his dominance with a clean, powerful first throw, setting the tone early. Germany’s Julian Weber closely pursued with a commendable 87.88 m, settling for silver, while Brazil’s Luiz Mauricio da Silva earned bronze with a third-round effort of 86.62 m.

Chopra followed his opener with a solid 85.10 m, then registered three fouls, before a concluding 82.89 m marked his final attempt. It marked his first Diamond League title since Lausanne in June 2023, ending a streak of six second-place finishes in the circuit.

Reflecting on his performance, Chopra expressed satisfaction with his technique’s consistency, crediting a strong run-up and rhythm, though he suggested further tweaks are needed for peak efficiency.

This Paris leg, the eighth of fifteen in the 2025 Diamond League series, saw Chopra return to Paris after a long hiatus, he last competed here in 2017, finishing fifth.

Next stop for Chopra is the Golden Spike meet in Ostrava on June 24, followed by hosting the inaugural Neeraj Chopra Classic in Bengaluru on July 5.
