New Zealand Brand Annabelle Sells ‘Charpai’ For Rs 41000 Calls It ‘Vintage Indian Daybed’

We still weren’t over the Sabyasachi x HM collection, when a company from New Zealand decided to up-market a traditional Indian charpai and sell it for an unexpected price.

A New Zealand brand, Annabelle’s, is selling the common Indian string cot, as ‘Vintage Indian Daybed’ complete with the old white bedsheet tossed over it in India. But what is unique and different in this daybed? Then we must tell you, the price difference between the cost in India, and the ‘Vintage Indian Daybed’ is at least 10 times.

It is described as a “One-of-a-kind” and “Original” the ‘charpai’ is currently on sale, at $800.00 NZD or Rs 41,211.85. For comparison, a ‘charpai’ at a local market near you will cost about a thousand bucks, at most or less. Even on Amazon India, the prices of ‘charpai’ go as low as Rs 800, and stretch to a maximum of Rs 10,000 for really fancy designer ones. Furthermore, this is not the first time Indian products have been sold at inflated prices to consumers.

This charpai is also known as “charpoy” is a bed that can be seen outside Indian houses that people have weaved on their own and use for resting.
