Newly Installed Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Statue Stolen in Madhya Pradesh Village, Police Investigate

A newly installed statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar has gone missing from Bari village in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhatarpur district, just two days after it was placed on a pedestal in an open area. Authorities have registered a theft case and begun an investigation.

Additional Superintendent of Police Vedita Dagar confirmed receiving a complaint about the missing statue, which was located in the Garhi Malhara police station area, around 12 km from the district headquarters. She assured that efforts were underway to identify and arrest those responsible.

Dr. Ambedkar, known as the chief architect of India’s Constitution, was born in Mhow Cantonment, Indore, on April 14, 1891. His statue, an 18-inch stone figure, was purchased by the villagers through crowdfunding from Uttar Pradesh. Sarpanch Asharam Ahirwar shared that the entire community contributed to bringing the statue to their village as a tribute to Ambedkar’s legacy.

Following the theft, tensions rose among the villagers, who were eager for answers. The local police have reportedly detained two individuals for questioning in connection with the incident. Authorities continue their probe, while the villagers hope for the swift return of the statue that symbolized their respect for Ambedkar.
