Nimisha Priya’s Execution Postponed by Yemen After India’s Efforts and Family Appeals

Yemeni authorities have reportedly postponed the execution of Indian nurse Nimisha Priya, which was earlier scheduled for July 16, 2025. Nimisha, a native of Kerala, had been facing the death penalty in Yemen in connection with a criminal case. The postponement comes as a temporary relief following continuous efforts by the Indian government and appeals from her family.

According to reports and sources, the Government of India confirmed that Indian officials had been in regular contact with Yemeni jail authorities and the prosecutor’s office. These efforts helped secure more time for Nimisha’s family to try and reach a mutually acceptable settlement with the victim’s family, as permitted under Yemeni law. “The Government of India, which has been supporting the case from the beginning, made strong efforts in recent days to delay the execution and allow time for a possible resolution,” a source told ANI.

This development follows the Indian government’s statement in the Supreme Court just a day earlier, where it said there was little more it could do in the case. “There is a point till which the Government of India can go. We have reached that,” the government’s counsel had told the court.

For now, Nimisha Priya’s family continues to hold onto hope.
