Renowned Punjabi lyricist Nimma Loharka, known for writing over 500 songs and shaping the careers of more than 150 singers, has passed away at the age of 48. The news has left the Punjabi music industry in deep sorrow, as fans and artists remember the man whose words created timeless melodies and powerful emotions. His last rites will be performed in his native village, marking a heartfelt farewell to Nimma Loharka.

Born as Nirmal Singh on March 24, 1977, he hailed from Loharka village in Ajnala tehsil of Amritsar. Coming from a humble farming family, he grew up surrounded by Punjabi folk stories narrated by his grandfather—an influence that would later shape his lyrical identity. Over the years, Nimma Loharka earned unmatched respect for his heartfelt compositions and deep understanding of human emotions.

A Lyricist Who Helped Build Punjabi Music

His pen played a crucial role in the rise of many celebrated artists, including Diljit Dosanjh, Ravinder Grewal, Nachhatar Gill, Amrinder Gill, Lakhwinder Wadali, Kulwinder Dhillon, and more. Songs like “Dil ditta nai si thokran lawan vaste” and “Ki samjawan ehna nain kamleyan nu” cemented Nimma Loharka as one of Punjabi music’s most gifted storytellers.

However, despite his contributions, the lyricist faced financial struggles in recent years. He openly shared that while he helped many artists achieve stardom, only a few supported him during his difficult days. He often expressed sadness over the industry moving toward gun-culture and gangster-themed music, leaving traditional lyricists like him behind.

His Journey From Village To Musical Legacy

Nimma Loharka discovered his passion early, writing his first few lines in Class 4. In Class 10, he wrote the widely loved “Nankane Vall Jande Rahiyo” for a school play. After matriculation, he moved to Ludhiana in 1994 to pursue music seriously. The shift was challenging, but encouragement from local singers kept him going. He later spent time in Bharowal, the village of folk legend Didar Sandhu, where he refined his craft further.

His first recorded song aired in 1995 on Jalandhar Doordarshan’s ‘Lok Rang’. In 2002, Nachhatar Gill’s “Asin Tere Naal Laiyan Si Nibhoun Vaaste” brought him international recognition.
