
A nitrogen gas leak from a tanker inside an acid factory warehouse in Beawar, Rajasthan, resulted in one death and affected 40 others. The incident occurred around 10 pm on Monday at Sunil Trading Company in the Badiya area, leading to suffocation and eye irritation for nearby residents. Several pets and stray animals also died from the exposure.
The deceased, factory owner Sunil Singhal, attempted to control the leak throughout the night but succumbed to the effects. His condition worsened, and he was referred to a hospital in Ajmer, where he passed away. Authorities confirmed that nitrogen gas leaked from a tanker stored in the warehouse. The leak was so severe that it spread quickly to nearby residential areas, causing widespread panic.
Over 60 people sought treatment in local hospitals, including both government and private facilities. Police, along with administrative officials, including the District Magistrate (DM) and Superintendent of Police (SP), arrived at the scene and, with the help of the fire brigade, contained the leak by 11 pm. As a precaution, nearby areas were evacuated to prevent further casualties.
District Collector Dr. Mahendra Khadgawat has ordered the factory’s closure and instructed the police to register a case. Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the leak and improve safety measures to prevent similar incidents. Ward councilor Hansraj Sharma, who was alerted by residents about the leak, quickly informed the fire brigade and administration. Firefighters managed to control the situation by pouring water on the tanker and sealing it.
SDM Divyansh Singh confirmed that the leaked gas was nitrogen. While the immediate danger has passed, authorities continue to monitor the situation, assuring residents that the area is now safe. A safety inspection of the factory has been ordered to avoid future accidents. The local administration also urged residents to remain cautious and take necessary precautions in case of similar incidents.
