No Special Arrangement For Sidhu In Patiala Jail, “We’re Against Giving VIP Status To Prisoners”, Says AAP Govt

The Bhagwant Mann government has completely denied to provide “special arrangements” in the prison for the former PPCC chief Navjot Singh Sidhu. The AAP govt has said that no special status will be accorded to Sidhu inside the jail.

The Supreme Court had yesterday sentenced Sidhu to one year of rigorous imprisonment in a 34-year-old road rage case, and he is likely to be lodged in the Patiala central.

Punjab jail minister Harjot Singh Bains  said, “Navjot Singh Sidhu is also an inmate now and he will be like any other inmate in Patiala jail. The Aam Aadmi Party government is against according VIP status to prisoners.”

The prosecution had said that Sidhu and his aide Rupinder Singh Sandhu were in a Gypsy parked in the middle of a road near the Sheranwala Gate crossing in Patiala on December 27, 1988, when the victim, Gurnam Singh, and two others were on their way to a bank. On reaching the crossing, Gurnam, who was driving a Maruti car, found the Gypsy in the middle of the road and asked the occupants, Sidhu and Sandhu, to move it. Challenging the 2018 verdict in the 1987 road rage case, which reduced Sidhu’s punishment, the victim’s family filed review petitions. The bench of Justices A. M. Khanwilkar and Sanjay Kishan Kaul pronounced the verdict today. The Supreme Court has enhanced the sentence of former PPCC chief Navjot Singh Sidhu to one year imprisonment in a 1987 road rage accident in which one person named Gurnam Singh had died. The Court allowed the review petition preferred by the family of victim Gurnam Singh against its 2018 verdict that had reduced the sentence of Navjot Singh Sidhu to Rs 1000 from 3 years imprisonment in a 1987 road rage accident in which Gurnam Singh had died.

Among those currently lodged inside the Patiala central jail is former Akali Dal minister Bikram Singh Majithia who was arrested in an old drugs case. With Majithia and Sidhu in same jail, the trollers have flooded the internet with memes all across the social media platforms.
