Oscars 2022: ‘Sardar Udham’, Starring Vicky Kaushal, Shortlisted To Be India’s Official Entry At The 94th Academy Awards

The Academy Awards, that present this award, are the most prestigious film awards in the world. ‘Sardar Udham’ starring Vicky Kaushal and ‘Sherni’ starring Vidya Balan have been shortlisted as India’s official entry at the 94th Academy Awards. There are only a handful of Indian films that have ever paved their way to be represented at the most prestigious Academy Awards and Sardar Udham & Sherni are the most recent additions.

It has been years since an Indian movie was nominated for any award at the Academy Awards and the Indian audience has high hopes this time from Sardar Udham and Sherni, if any of them makes it to the awards. Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt’s ‘Gully Boy’ was India’s official entry in the International Feature Film category at the 92nd Academy Awards. However, it failed to capitalise.

Sardar Udham, starring Vicky Kaushal as Shaheed-E-Azam Sardar Udham Singh Sunam, was released on OTT platform Amazon Prime Video on 16 October, 2021. It’s not even been a week since it was released and the movie has already been shortlisted as India’s entry at the Oscars 2022. A Biopic on the Great revolutionary and freedom fighter, Shaheed Udham Singh, the movie received applause from all over the world for its excellent cinematography, directorial and acting skills. Many described it as a ‘movie experience like never before’ and a Masterpiece.

While Sardar Udham was a movie about remembering the dark past of India as a colony, Vidya Balan’s Sherni talked about the modern darkness surrounding the country. It aimed at raising awareness about wildlife conservation and the conflict among humans and the wildlife. The movie received positive reviews from critics and getting shortlisted for the Academy Awards has put a stamp on the film being successful in serving its purpose.

A 15-member jury at Kolkata is watching 14 films and 1 of them will be selected to be India’s official entry at the prestigious Academy Awards 2022. Sardar Udham, Sherni and some other regional films have so far been shortlisted and one of them will make history by becoming India’s official entry at the 94th edition of the most prestigious awards soon.
