Padma Shri Kaur Singh: Film On Boxing Legend Who Faced Muhammad Ali, Announced

“A story that waited 37 years to unfold”, the quote on the announcement poster of the latest Punjabi film reveals all about it. Titled ‘Padma Shri Kaur Singh’, the film has officially been announced and it will be released in theatres worldwide on 8 July, 2022.

The film narrates the life story of Indian Boxing Legend, Kaur Singh. He was a boxer from the Malwa region of Punjab and is one of the most decorated boxers in Indian history. Kaur Singh has a Senior National Boxing Championship Gold Medal (1979), Gold Medal at the Asian Boxing Championship (1980) and a Gold Medal at the heavyweight category Asian Games (1982) to his name.

He has even represented India at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics in 1984, the year he retired from boxing. He is also known for being the only Indian boxer ever to face the legendary Muhammad Ali. He faced him at Delhi’s National Stadium on 27 January, 1980.

The film on the life of the boxing legend has been written and directed by Vikram Pradhan. It has been produced in a collaborative effort by Karam Batth and Vicky Mann. It stars Prabh Grewal, Malkeet Rauni, Baninder Bunny,  Seema Kaushal, Gurpreet Bhangu, Sukhi Chahal, Sukhbir Gill and Raj Kakra.

It will hit the theatres on 8 July, 2022. Padma Shri and Arjuna Awardee, Kaur Singh is one of the greatest athletes to have ever been on the soil of Punjab, yet there aren’t many people who know his story. Padma Shri Kaur Singh will surely be a movie to not miss!
