The Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian armed forces revealed that Pakistan used Turkish-made Songar drones, developed by the Turkish weapons company Asisgard, in attacks targeting military installations across India. The press briefing, led by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, Colonel Sophia Qureshi, and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, outlined details of the attacks.
According to Colonel Qureshi, Pakistan deployed 300 to 400 Turkish drones across 36 locations during the attack on the night of May 8-9. Wing Commander Singh highlighted the use of heavy-calibre weapons along India’s western border. The Indian government also pointed out that Pakistan took advantage of civilian air traffic corridors to shield its drones, knowing India would avoid targeting flights carrying civilians.
The drone incursions were reportedly aimed at detecting the locations of India’s aerial defense systems. In retaliation, India launched four drones and destroyed an aerial defense radar in Pakistan. The heightened tensions, which saw renewed cross-border hostilities, have raised alarms across northern and western India. The Indian military responded swiftly, neutralizing several drone and missile threats aimed at key military installations, including in Jammu and Pathankot.
This surge in aggression marks a major escalation in the ongoing India-Pakistan standoff, with both sides engaging in heightened military actions and defense measures in recent days.
