PM Modi Begins Thailand Visit to Attend BIMSTEC Summit and Strengthen Regional Ties

Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a warm and spirited welcome as he landed in Bangkok on Thursday, greeted by a sea of Indian diaspora cheering “Modi Modi” and “Vande Mataram.” His arrival kicks off an important diplomatic tour, beginning with the 6th BIMSTEC Summit, scheduled for April 4.

At the airport, Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit and senior officials extended a ceremonial welcome. PM Modi’s visit focuses on enhancing India’s role within the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC), a regional platform of seven nations committed to boosting connectivity, economic growth, and shared development.

During his stay, PM Modi will also hold bilateral discussions with Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra and other key leaders. With deep historical and cultural ties linking India and Thailand, both nations are eager to explore new dimensions of their partnership.

Before his departure, PM Modi emphasized BIMSTEC’s growing significance, saying it has evolved into a meaningful forum for regional progress. He expressed his excitement about productive dialogue with regional leaders to shape a future that serves people across member nations.

Following his engagements in Thailand, PM Modi will travel to Sri Lanka from April 4-6. There, he plans to build on the outcomes of Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s visit to India last year, reviewing joint projects and shared visions for the region.

India’s continued leadership in BIMSTEC reflects its commitment to uniting South and Southeast Asia for mutual prosperity.
