Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to Ghana on July 3, 2025, addressed the country’s Parliament and was conferred with one of its highest civilian honours—“Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana.” Modi dedicated the award to the enduring friendship between India and Ghana, calling the recognition a tribute to their shared values and strong diplomatic ties.
“Ghana is known as the land of gold, not just for what lies under your soil but as much for the warmth and strength in your heart,” said PM Modi in his address, evoking applause.
A statement by India’s Ministry of External Affairs emphasised that the honour symbolises India’s deep respect for Ghana’s rich heritage and the mutual cooperation between both nations.
Modi highlighted that the bilateral relationship has now reached the level of a comprehensive partnership. In a joint media briefing held on July 2, he said India is not merely a partner but a “co-traveller” in Ghana’s journey of progress. Both countries have also set an ambitious target of doubling bilateral trade over the next five years.
Discussions also included the shared challenges faced by the Global South, reflecting both nations’ broader diplomatic vision.
Following his Ghana visit, PM Modi is scheduled to travel to Trinidad and Tobago (July 3–4), then Argentina, and finally Namibia, where he will pay tribute to anti-colonial icon Sam Nujoma.
