
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated a new Locomotive Manufacturing facility of Indian Railways in Dahod, Gujarat, marking a significant step toward strengthening the nation’s railway infrastructure and freight efficiency.
Accompanied by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, the Prime Minister also flagged off the first electric locomotive produced at the plant.

As per the official statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the inauguration reflects PM Modi’s ongoing focus on boosting connectivity and creating world-class transport infrastructure.
The newly inaugurated facility is set to manufacture 9000 HP electric locomotives for both domestic deployment and export. These locomotives, designed for enhanced freight capacity, will feature regenerative braking systems and energy-efficient technology to support environmental sustainability.
During his visit, the Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone and inaugurated several other development initiatives in Dahod, collectively valued at over ₹24,000 crore. These projects span rail infrastructure upgrades and various initiatives led by the Government of Gujarat.
He flagged off the Vande Bharat Express service between Veraval and Ahmedabad, along with a new express train connecting Valsad and Dahod, according to the PMO release.
PM Modi is currently on a two-day tour of Gujarat from May 26 to 27. Earlier in the day, he held a vibrant roadshow in Vadodara, expressing heartfelt gratitude to the city’s residents.
“Thank you, Vadodara! Extremely delighted to be in this great city. It was a splendid roadshow and that too in the morning! Gratitude to all those who showered their blessings,” the Prime Minister shared on X.
During the roadshow, Modi greeted enthusiastic citizens lining the streets, waving at them as they responded with tricolours in hand and chants of patriotic slogans. The atmosphere was lively, with patriotic music playing and flower petals being showered along the route.
Among the attendees were family members of Indian Army Officer Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, known for her role in media briefings during Operation Sindoor.
