PM Modi to Inaugurate Five Redeveloped Railway Stations in Vadodara Division

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually inaugurate five redeveloped railway stations under the Western Railway’s Vadodara division on May 22.

“The stations — Dakor, Karamsad, Derol, Kosamba, and Utran — are part of the nationwide rollout under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), which aims to transform over 1,300 railway stations into state-of-the-art transit hubs.”

Launched two years ago, the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme focuses on improving passenger comfort, promoting accessibility, and incorporating architectural designs that reflect regional heritage and local culture.

Vadodara, located along the vital New Delhi–Mumbai railway corridor, plays a central role in the Western Railway network. It serves as the headquarters of the Vadodara division and sees over 150 trains daily, connecting major cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, and Howrah. The station’s infrastructure includes electrified tracks, multiple platforms, and advanced signalling systems that support both passenger and freight operations.

The Vadodara division extends across key districts such as Anand, Bharuch, Narmada, and parts of Surat, covering more than 4,400 kilometres of route length. It oversees several important stations including Bharuch, Anand, Godhra, and Chhayapuri, serving both urban populations and remote areas.

The division is also a critical freight corridor, especially for transporting industrial materials like chemicals, fertilisers, petroleum products, and textiles from industrial hubs such as Bharuch and Ankleshwar. With continuous upgrades under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme and other infrastructure projects, the division is expected to see major improvements in efficiency and passenger services.

The five redeveloped stations reflect a thoughtful mix of sustainable design, cultural identity, and functional upgrades:

Dakor Station, a key stop for pilgrims visiting the Shree Ranchhodrai Temple, now features eco-conscious facilities tailored to religious tourism.

Karamsad Station has been reimagined to honour Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, with an artistic tribute wall and commemorative zone.

Derol Station incorporates temple-inspired architecture, resonating with the spiritual essence of the nearby Pavagadh pilgrimage destination.

Utran Station, located near Surat’s rapidly growing metro belt, has been redesigned for daily commuters with a modern, accessible layout.

Kosamba, along with the other stations, has been upgraded to provide improved services and a better travel experience for local and regional passengers.

These developments mark a significant step in modernising India’s railway infrastructure while preserving the distinct character of each region.
