
Pope Leo XIV has extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the tragic Air India crash near Ahmedabad, Gujarat. In a message shared through the Vatican’s Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Pope said he was “deeply saddened” by the news of the accident.
The Pope expressed sympathy for the victims’ families and friends and offered prayers for those currently involved in recovery efforts at the crash site.
“His Holiness Pope Leo XIV sends his heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of those who have lost their lives,” Cardinal Parolin wrote in a telegram sent Thursday. “He also offers his assurance of prayers for all involved in the recovery efforts.”
The tragedy occurred when Air India flight 171, a London-bound Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner carrying 242 people, crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad. Rescue teams have been working tirelessly to locate and recover the bodies of the passengers and crew members.
The Pope’s message comes as the world mourns the loss of lives in this devastating incident. People across the globe have expressed solidarity with the grieving families, and tributes continue to pour in from world leaders and spiritual heads alike.
