A prisoner from Salaswal jail in Dausa, Rajasthan, allegedly issued a death threat against Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on Friday night, according to police reports. The individual, identified as 29-year-old Rinku, who is serving a life sentence for rape, called the Jaipur police control room and threatened to kill the CM, PTI news agency reported.
The police traced the call to a mobile phone within Salaswal jail. Following this, a four-hour search operation was carried out from 3 am to 7 am inside the jail premises, resulting in the recovery of the phone. While the motive behind the threat remains unclear, law enforcement is continuing to investigate the matter.
This isn’t the first threat against CM Sharma. In July 2024, a prisoner from Dausa central jail had also made similar threats against him. Earlier in January 2024, a POCSO convict from Jaipur central jail had called the police and threatened to shoot the CM. In a separate case, Mumbai police received emails on Thursday threatening to blow up the car of Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde.
The emails were sent to two police stations, Goregaon and JJ Marg, and the crime branch arrested two individuals from Deulgaon Mahi village for allegedly sending the threats. Technical analysis traced the emails to a mobile phone.
Additionally, last November, Mumbai traffic police received a death threat against Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath via WhatsApp, demanding his resignation or facing serious consequences, referring to the murder of former NCP leader Baba Siddique.
