Punjab: 9 Days After Moose Wala’s Murder, Security Of 424 VIPs Restored Today

Today, 9 days after the brutal killing of renowned Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala, the Punjab government has restored the security of all 424 VIPs. Earlier, during the hearing of a plea filed by former deputy CM OP Soni in Punjab and Haryana high court regarding the curtailment of security, the Punjab govt had said that the security of the VIPs was scaled down temporarily and would be restored from June 7.

As claimed by the Punjab govt in Punjab and Haryana HC, the security from the VIPs was curtailed ‘temporarily’ due to the upcoming “Ghallughara week” and the anniversary of 1984 – Operation Bluestar on June 6, for which it needed surplus security. It stated in the HC that from June 7, the security of all 424 VIPs would be restored. This was during the hearing of a plea filed by senior Congress leader and former deputy CM OP Soni in Punjab and Haryana high court on May 30.

Though the opposition has questioned the AAP govt over this decision. PPCC chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring said, “If the security of the VIPs was scaled down in the view of the anniversary of Operation Bluestar, why wasn’t the security of Arvind Kejriwal and Raghav Chadha curtailed?”

Three days before Moose Wala was shot dead, on May 26, the Punjab government scaled down his security from four to two security personnel. Though after he was shot dead, the opposition as well as the common people slammed the Punjab govt over its decision. There was public anger, especially amongst the fans of Sidhu Moose Wala, as to why his security was curtailed. Even before CM Bhagwant Mann reached Moose Wala’s residence, the local AAP MLA had to face the people’s anger who didn’t allow him to enter Moose Wala’s house.

Though now, the Punjab government has restored the security of all 424 VIPs from June 7.
