Punjab: Accused In A Rape Case, Lok Insaf Party Chief Simranjit Bains And 4 Others Surrender

Former MLA and president of Lok Insaf Party – Simarjit Bains, along with four other suspects in a rape case, have finally surrendered before a court in Ludhiana on Monday morning. The next hearing will be on July 14 in the JMIC ( the court of Judicial Magistrate First Class)

Simranjit’s brother Karamjit Singh Bains and friend Sukhchain Singh have already been arrested in the case. According to the complainant’s advocate Harish Rai Dhanda, the five accused, including Simarjit, surrendered at 9.30 AM before the court, which granted police a three-day remand.

“All the three accused have surrendered at one place together, proving that they are connected and were hiding somewhere together. They tried to misuse the law and their political influence over the governments, and even tried to destroy the evidence,” said advocate Harish Rai Dhanda.

Before surrendering, Simranjit Singh Bains, shared a post on his official Facebook handle, saying, “We have said this before and again saying that we have full faith in the judicial system. The truth will soon come out and justice will prevail.”

The 44-year-old rape victim accused Simranjit Bains of raping her several times between April to October 2020. An FIR under sections 376 (rape), 354 (sexual harassment), 354-B (sexual assault), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), was registered against Simranjit and the 4 others on July 10, last year.
