Punjab Finance and Transport Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Tuesday flagged off five new Super Integral Volvo coaches under the Punjab Airport Bus Service, enhancing connectivity between Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. The initiative aims to provide safe, comfortable and affordable travel options for international travellers, NRIs and regular commuters using the Punjab Airport Bus Service.
Speaking at the launch event, Cheema said the new buses would offer greater convenience to passengers while helping eliminate the influence of transport mafias in the state. He added that the Punjab Government remains committed to strengthening public transport infrastructure and ensuring better mobility for citizens.
Punjab Airport Bus Service Gets Major Boost
Highlighting the journey of the Punjab Airport Bus Service, the minister recalled that the service was first launched on June 15, 2022, from Jalandhar Bus Stand by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Since then, it has emerged as a popular transport option for passengers travelling to Delhi Airport.
Cheema also announced that the Transport Department is adding a total of 15 new Super Integral Coach buses to the Punbus fleet. The first batch of five buses has already been rolled out, while the remaining vehicles will be introduced in phases.
The addition of these luxury coaches is expected to improve passenger comfort and further strengthen the Punjab Airport Bus Service, especially for those travelling to catch international flights from Delhi.
Fleet Expansion Underway Across Punjab
The minister said the state government has launched a large-scale fleet expansion programme to modernise public transportation. The new Volvo coaches form part of this broader effort to provide high-quality and reliable travel facilities across Punjab.
With the latest expansion, the Punjab Airport Bus Service is expected to improve accessibility and reduce travel hassles for thousands of passengers. The upgraded fleet will also support the government’s vision of creating a more efficient and passenger-friendly public transport system.
