Punjab: Big Jolt To Congress, National Spokesperson And Youth Icon Jaiveer Shergill Quits

Jaiveer Shergill, the national spokesperson and one of the most famous youth leaders of the Congress, surprisingly, has resigned from the party. Shergill, in his resignation, slammed the Gandhis, adding that the vision of party’s decision makers is no longer in sync with the aspirations of the youth.

In his letter, Jaiveer Shergill has written, “It hurts me that the decision-making in the Congress party is no longer in the interest of the nation and its people, instead affected by those who continuously ignore the ground realities and act in their own self-serving interests. I cannot morally support this or continue to work in such an environment.”

He further added, “In my journey of the last 8 years, I have only poured into, not taken anything from the party. It’s highly unacceptable to me how I was being forced to bow down before some people only because they are close to the top leadership of the party. Sycophancy and coterie are eating into the Congress party like termites!”

Jaiveer’s exit from the grand-old-party is seen as a big jolt to Congress in Punjab. A lawyer by profession, Jaiveer Shergill used to be one of the most prominent spokespersons of the Indian National Congress. Moreover, this has increased the challenges of the party in Punjab.

In the past few years, the Congress party has lost a lot of youth as well as senior leaders. From the second line leaders like Jyotiraditya Scindia, Jitin Prasad, RPN Singh and now Jaiveer Shergill, to senior leaders like Captain Amarinder Singh, Sunil Jakhar and many more have left the INC and joined the BJP, TMC and the other parties.

The grand-old-party is all set to begin its ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ from September 7, however, first Ghulam Nabi Azad and Anand Sharma’s anger and now Jaiveer Shergill’s resignation, have troubled the party.
