Punjab Man Arrested for Leaking Army Secrets to Pakistan During Operation Sindoor

In a serious breach of national security, a man from Punjab’s Tarn Taran district has been arrested for allegedly sharing sensitive army information with Pakistani intelligence operatives during Operation Sindoor. The arrest was confirmed by Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Tuesday.

The accused, identified as Gagandeep Singh alias Gagan, is a resident of Mohalla Rodupur, Gali Nazar Singh Wali in Tarn Taran. According to police, he was in direct contact with Pakistan’s spy agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), and had received money in exchange for leaking classified military information.

He was nabbed in a joint operation carried out by the Tarn Taran Police and the Counter Intelligence wing. Police recovered a mobile phone from Gagandeep, which reportedly contained highly sensitive data he had shared with Pakistani Intelligence Operatives (PIOs), including details of army movements, troop deployment, and strategic locations.

The DGP revealed that Gagandeep had been in touch with known Khalistani supporter Gopal Singh Chawla for the past five years. “Through him, he was introduced to the PIOs,” Yadav said.

“He also received payments from #PIOs via #Indianchannels,” Yadav added.

Investigators also found that Gagandeep had stored information on over 20 ISI contacts in his phone. A deeper financial and technical probe is currently underway to identify further links and expose the wider espionage network.

An FIR has been registered against him under the Official Secrets Act at City Police Station, Tarn Taran. “Punjab Police remains committed to safeguarding the sovereignty and integrity of the nation and will take all necessary actions against those involved in anti-national activities,” DGP Yadav stated.

Operation Sindoor, carried out by the Indian armed forces on May 7, involved early morning missile strikes on nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. These included strongholds of terror groups like Jaish-e-Mohammad in Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba in Muridke. The operation was launched in retaliation to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 people.

This arrest follows earlier detentions of six people, including a woman from Malerkotla, who were also suspected of spying for Pakistan.
